At Yanceyville, Katie Crews went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI as Bartlett Yancey defeated visiting South Johnston 4-0 in the first round of the Class 3-A state playoffs.
Rachel Shumaker pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the Buccaneers (25-0), striking out nine batters.
Hannah Shumaker went 2-for-2 with a double for Bartlett Yancey, while Cindy Workman had an inside-the-park home run.
Bartlett Yancey plays host to South Granville (15-5) in the second round scheduled for Friday, but the teams are trying to move the game up to Thursday.
HARNETT CENTRAL 10, WESTERN ALAMANCE 0: At Angier, Harnett Central defeated visiting Western Alamance in the first round of the Class 3-A state playoffs.
The Warriors fell to 7-14. The Trojans improved to 20-4.
BUNN 5, GRAHAM 1: At Bunn, April Haith, Taylor McCann and Claudia Waggoner had a hit each, but visiting Graham fell to Bunn in the first round of the Class 2-A state playoffs.
The Red Devils end their season at 13-12. Bunn improved to 16-3.
