Western Alamance advances in 3-A tennis

ELON - Rajiv Dinakaran defeated Will Fondrie 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 at No. 2 singles to help guide Western Alamance past visiting Union Pines 6-0 in the second round of the Class 3-A dual team state playoffs in boys' tennis on Tuesday.

    Gregory Patterson beat Dylan Rice 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the Warriors (14-3), who play host to Southern Nash in next Tuesday's third round.

    Jared Bryant, Chris Sparks, Eric Drab and Brendan Byers also posted victories in singles for Western Alamance. The doubles portion of the match wasn't contested as the outcome had already been determined.

    Union Pines fell to 17-2.

    SOUTHERN NASH 5, WILLIAMS 4: Kyle Ramsey and Jordan Hagler defeated Andre Waschka and Mitchell Jones 10-5 at No. 3 doubles as visiting Southern Nash clinched a victory against Williams High School in the second round of the Class 3-A dual team state playoffs at Burlington Tennis Center.

    After singles play, Williams found itself down 4-2. The Bulldogs (12-5) had to sweep all three doubles matches to notch the team triumph.

    Adam Blaser defeated Michael Barnes 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for Williams, while Ethan Brooks beat Ethan Page 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 at the No. 2 spot.

    The Bulldogs lost third-set tiebreakers at Nos. 3 and 6 singles.

    Ramsey also won in singles for the Firebirds (24-0), defeating Michael Hill 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
