Comments 0 | Recommend 0TABOR CITY - No. 1 seed South Columbus downed visiting Cummings High School 56-20 in the first round of the Class 2-A state playoffs in high school football Friday night.
South Columbus had two touchdowns on a kickoff and punt return against the 16th-seeded Cavaliers.
``We got seven freshmen and eight sophomores and have a very young team,'' assistant coach Jay Perdue said. ``We are gonna try and take as many positives out of this game as possible.''
Cummings trailed 35-14 at halftime.
The Cavaliers end their season at 4-8, while the Stallions improved to 11-1.
``We just told the guys you lived up to the Cummings tradition and kept us in the playoffs,'' Perdue added. ``For us the offseason starts on Monday and the kids are taking it as a challenge. We weren't happy we lost, but this was a very good experience for this football team.''
