Area track athletes shine at Class 3-A regional

GREENSBORO -- Williams' Lindsay Ester and Nick Kelly and Eastern Alamance's Chris Felmet won two events each at last week's Class 3-A Mideast Regional at Western Guilford, highlighting a day that saw several area athletes qualify for Friday's Class 3-A track and field championships.

Eastern Alamance notched second place in the boys' team standings with Williams taking fourth. Western Alamance was 10th.

Williams distance standout Nick Kelly won the 800 meters and the 1,600. Eastern Alamance's Nick Hursyz was second in the event while Williams' Michael Cowan took fourth.

Williams' Shawn Curry finished third in the 300 hurdles. The Bulldogs finished fourth in the 400 relay and 800 relay.

Felmet took home first place in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Teammate Damion Reed won the shot put and finished third in the discus. Eastern Alamance's James Fowler was third in the 400 while Ryan King took third in the high jump.

Eastern Alamance won the 800 relay and took second in the 1,600 relay and 3,200 relay.

Western Alamance's Bradlee Kiser took second in the 3,200 while teammate Kris London took fourth. Logan Elliston gave the Warriors a fourth-place finish in the high jump.

Southern Alamance's Stefan Johnson was third in the 200.

Williams took third in the girls' team competition while Eastern Alamance finished fifth.

Ester won the 1,600 meters and claimed the 3,200.

Teammate Rose Buchanan finished second in the 3,200, followed by Colby Gabel of Eastern Alamance who took third.

Cierra Wall took second in the 100 while Yvette Wyatt finished fourth in the 400.  The Bulldogs won the 400 relay as well as the 3,200 relay.

Eastern Alamance's Andria Walker won the high jump, clearing 5-0. She also finished fifth in the shot put. The Eagles' Krystal White took fourth in the 400 while teammate Solana Wild took fourth in the 300 hurdles. The Eagles took third in the 800 relay and sixth in the 400 relay and 3,200 relay.

Yasha Corbett of Bartlett Yancey finished fourth in the 200 while Bria Wilson took fourth in the long jump.

Southern Alamance's Ariel Bagley was second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.

Western Alamance got a third-place finish from Mariah Neal and a fifth-place finish from Natalie Alvis in the 300 hurdles. The Warriors took fifth in the 800 relay.
